Chevy Volt Assembly

On Engadget this morning, I noticed a link to a video showing Chevy Volt assembly from start to finish.   Awesome! Enjoy!

Free Public Wifi (not public, not free and not safe either!)

For years, I've been warning people about the nonexistant wifi network that pops up from time to time called "free public wifi".  It is the result of a bug in Windows XP where Windows automatically starts up an ad hoc network for the most recent ad hoc network it connected to.  I've seen free public wifi at airports and even at work.  Microsoft finally fixed this bug in Windows XP SP 3 but not everyone gets their MS updates.

NPR has a nice article explaining the history, "The Zombe Network: Beware Free Public Wifi" here...

Goodbye Blackberry Hello iPhone

It was only a matter of time.  I walked around with a BB 8830 and an iPod Touch for the better part of a year.  At first, I let the BB keep up with addresses and calendar and even apps.  As I discovered the quality and diversity of iPhone apps and the limitations of the memory footprint of the BB 8830 and the inability of BB OS to run anything from Micro SD card, I gradually began to treat the BB as if it were a dumb phone.  When I got my iPad, I appreciated iPhone apps even more.

Then iPhone 4 came out and I realized just how far behind the tech curve I had fallen.  I couldn't take pictures with the BB (no camera) or receive MMS messages (I had to use a gimpy VZWpix web site which was summarily deleted without warning for lack of use every 180 days).  Calendar entries were associated with an email address and I had to choose one each and every time I created an entry.  And guess what?  Pick the wrong one and Missing Sync wouldn't push the info to my iPod Touch or the rest of my Apple gear.

My next phone?

I'm a frequent poster over at Brighthand and Macrumors (r0k).  In recent months, I've been trying to decide what phone will replace my aging BB 8830.  Will it be an iPhone 4?  Will it be some Android phone?  I stumbled across an ars article that says the future doesn't bode very well for Apple's iOS market share relative to Android if they don't get iPhone out from under At&t.

I must admit that if an iPhone were available on Verizon, I'd be done thinking and already have one by now...

Have a suggestion?  Fire away in the comments...

Apple Made Another Boo Boo ... 60% off 40,000 Mac Minis?

Macrumors is reporting that Apple has decided to honor the 40,000 orders for Mac Minis placed in China while its site showed the incorrect price.  That's 40,000 Mac Minis at 40% of retail.  How much are you willing to bet ebay doesn't get saturated with these things in the coming months?

Butterfly Robot?

I ran across a story over at Engadget about a realistic butterfly robot.  Apparently the thing is powered by batteries inside the lid of the jar.  Not enough is shown in the video to convince me this is real.  If they took off the lid and changed the batteries during the video I'd be more convinced.  Judge for yourself...

A hilarious product has been announced for all you iPhone 4 users out there who insist on "holding it wrong"...

The N States of America

The arrest of Russian agents this past week got me nostalgic for the good old days of American Imperialism.  Wouldn't you know, Futurity.org was thinking about world domination (starting with Puerto Rico) as well.  Now you can see what the US flag would look like for any number of states up to 100.  Only megalomaniac patriots should proceed...
